On October 20, 2006 at the Meadowlands Sheraton in Secaucus, the Bergen County Workforce Investment Board, the Hudson County Workforce Investment Board and the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the first annual Regional Workforce Symposium, which is sponsored in part by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.
Unlike most business development conferences, the genesis of the Regional Workforce Symposium was not to debate current and future policy surrounding the regions economy. The event focuses directly on the fact that in order to truly understand the current state of business and workforce needs in the region, government agencies, Chambers of Commerce and public officials need to hear directly from the business community; owners and executives, about key issues such as what makes running a business in New Jersey difficult and the critical need to sustain an educated and motivated workforce.
The symposium is expected to draw upwards of 300 businessmen and women, business owners, government and elected officials from throughout the region. The event is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast and a keynote speech from invited guest, television news personality, Bill Griffeth of CNBC’s “Power Lunch.”
Directly following breakfast, there will be a moderated, panel discussion on topics such as: profiles of business and the workforce in the Meadowlands region, how the workforce system and local Chambers of Commerce can provide the business community with valuable services, workforce challenges, emerging industries and occupations, education and transportation. The panel will consist of successful business executives and business owners from throughout Northern New Jersey whose companies and leadership have made significant impacts on the regional economy. Attendees will be given opportunities to ask questions and join in on topic driven breakout sessions directly following the panel discussion.
Breakout sessions will be followed by a sit down lunch and presentations by Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce President Jim Kirkos on the Meadowlands workforce initiatives and Bergen County Workforce Investment Board Executive Director Tammy Molinelli on current government business services and a vision of how regional workforce development means economic development.
Space is limited, so please register at your earliest convenience. The ticket cost is $25 and you can register to attend by calling Betsy Spano at the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce directly at 201-939-0707 xt.13.
